Most people are stunned by America’s recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance law, which will allow corporations to spend all the money they want to support or oppose candidates for President and Congress. Under the new rules, Big Oil, Big Defense, Big Health Insurance, Big Pharmaceutical, virtually every rich corporation you can think of can now legally buy all the politicians they want.
Of course, it was a conservative Supreme Court did this with a 5 to 4 vote. It was handled by the same brood who gave us George W. Bush’s first term.
Incidentally, that scandal was called FLORIDA-GATE and was the nation’s largest scandal since WATERGATE.
The Court is actually recognizing corporations as an individual with First Amendment rights, overturning 100 years of Supreme Court laws and decisions. Controls on corporate campaigning were argued in 1907, and they banned it. They argued it again in 1947 and still ruled against it. The Supreme Court has argued again and again that corporations and unions can NOT use their treasuries to buy elections. Now, all of a sudden, they’ve changed their minds and have undone the American voters’ power in an instant. They did it the same way that they overturned the 2000 presidential election.
The only good thing about this is that now maybe we’ll see some names up front like Exxon Mobil, Lockheed Martin, AIG, and Pfizer. Until now, they’ve had to buy elections in secret.
Incidentally, Franklin D. Roosevelt said that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.
