Bill Maher does political satire and observational comedy.
From 1993 to 2002 he hosted a half-hour late night talk show called Politically Incorrect. It began on Comedy Central and was such a success that it was bought out by the media giant ABC in 1997. After that, it became even more popular. In 2002, at the peak of its popularity, ABC canceled the show.
It was canceled because conservative Republican bigwigs wanted it gone.
Well, Bill Maher is now back and more popular than ever. He is currently the host of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.
Judging by his latest segment of NEW RULES, his fears of being canceled have disappeared. Equally clear is the fact that most Republicans would love to make Bill Maher disappear off the face of the earth forever.
